Daniel was probably 16 years old when he was taken captive by Babylonia. He died there at the age of 85. He never saw his family, friends, or homeland again. What matters most about his life is how he remained faithful to God throughout his life, while living in a land where its inhabitants had not even heard of Jehovah.
The name Daniel means “God is my judge”. The life he led indeed reflected his name. In today’s sermon, I want to place before you 3 valuable lessons I learned from the lives of Daniel and his friends.
Speaking of the parable of the Prodigal Son James Kosta was the prodigal son of the new generation. As an IT Consultant who earned $1,500 dollars every month at the age of 13. With an 18-year-old girlfriend, pockets full of cash, and friends aplenty he began skipping school and staying out late into the night. Then his parents issued him with an ultimatum: If he wanted to live under their roof he had to give it all up and focus on school. Kosta reacted by legally emancipating himself from the custody of his parents.
James Dobson tells the true story of a little toddler named Frankie. He was a handful, to say the least. One day he pulled a chair over to the front window of his house, and carefully placed it inside the drapes. He was standing there staring out at the world when his mother came looking for him. She spied his little white legs protruding beneath the drapes, and quietly slipped in behind him to see what he was doing. She got there just to hear him say to himself in very somber terms, “I’ve GOT to get out of here!”
I have been a born-again Christian for the last 21 years and in full-time ministry since the year 2000, (Almost 13 years.) One of the most surprising discoveries I made after my conversion was that problems do exist in the church too! In fact, I learned sometimes you have more problems in the church than it is in the world.
The Bible teaches us that true Thanksgiving is identified or verified by a life of daily thanks-living. Today even as another Thanksgiving day is around the corner, let us consider how to lead a lifestyle of thanksgiving throughout the year.
