THE DIVINE HEALING

Introduction

I was used to believe in divine healing even before I got saved and became a minister of the Assemblies of God of Ceylon. I was a Roman Catholic devout prior to my conversion and had a basic idea of divine healing, though I did not experience it in a much influencing way (before I became a born again Christian).

However this is biblical as Jesus healed the sick while apostle Paul advice the church to call upon the elders and get them to pray for the sick with anointing of oil. 2000 years ago Jesus was recognized as the greatest physician on the earth as he performed miraculous healings with the power of the Holy Spirit, we can do the same thing today from the Spirit filled Christians.

Scripture verses: 1 Corinthians 11:17-30, Luke 13:10-12, James 5:16, Mark 5:5-7, Isaiah 53:4-5

  1. The causes for human sicknesses
  • Sin

This is not major reason but has a significant impact on the human health. This is evident when Paul speaks about taking part in the Holy communion in an unworthy manner in 1 Corinthians 11:17-30. In the modern times we are aware, 95% of the STD infections are taking place due to unlawful sexual behaviors, against which the bible is very strict. However we must not forget that God makes people sick, but when we sin against God we give room to sicknesses to enter our bodies.

  • Generational curses

Satan and his armies always rejoice in making people sick. John 10:10a gives us the perfect example about these conditions. Their only intention regarding the man kind is to steal from them, kill them and destroy them. Man has become a thorn in the eyes of dark forces as he bears the image of God.

2. Reasons that some people are not healed

    • Unconfessed sin

According to James 5:16 and the some incidents that I have witnessed it is obvious that some so called born again Christians continue in sin, while claiming to be the holy children of God.

This could even dangerous when the believer at fault does not realize tat he or she is actually in spiritual error. In many given times this means bitterness against another person, hatred and un-forgiveness.

  • For the glory of God

As in John 9:1-11 sometimes all the above conditions could be false, and the reason could as surprising as to glorify the name of the Lord when the time fully comes. Jesus said the blind man was not born blind because he or his parents or ancestors sinned but to reveal the glorious works of the son of man.

3. Jesus Christ is our only hope for divine healing

The book of Isaiah 53:4-5 reads as follows. “Sure He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, any by His wounds we are healed”.

Jesus died for our sins, paying a price that He did not deserve and a debt that we are not able to pay ourselves. Jesus was whipped 40 times which was the price to bring healing to man kind from 40 major sicknesses.

He has done the difficult part, now it is our turn to do our part. It is time to,

1. Confess

2. Repent and ask for forgiveness

3. Accept Jesus to your life if you have not already done so/or recommit your life unto Him if you are a believer.
