Introduction
- This passage is an answer to the human tendency to worry.
- We find it easier to feel secure with needs that we can control.
- When a need is beyond our control we worry.
But Christ is calling us to give up our limited securities for the greater security in his grace. But why?
Let me show you 4 reasons.
1. God commands us to not to worry, v. 25
- Jesus does not mean that it is wrong to make provisions for future physical needs.
- But he forbids to worry which is lack of faith.
2. God takes great care of us, v. 26-29
- God has set us free from anxiety (birds of the air).
- We are free from status seeking (Lilies of the field).
- We should give priority to eternal things (Grass of the field).
3. Worrying is not a characteristic of a good Christian, v. 30-32
- Worrying signifies a lack of faith (Exodus 16:3).
- We are different from those who are in the world.
- Our heavenly father knows our needs.
- His grace is new every day (Exodus 16:14-20).
4. How ever the above mentioned blessings are conditional, v. 33-34
- Seek his kingdom
- Seek his righteousness
Conclusion
- Worrying is not for Christians.
- Worrying cannot help us to meet our needs.
- But the grace of God is sufficient for us in each and every day of our life.
